Lessons I’ve learned since January 9, 2005
Heaven is often the best answer to prayers for healing.
Reconciliation sometimes is wordless.
Love is unfathomable.
Frailty can lead to God.
Death is one of the spices that heighten the savor of life.
My dad used to love a poem that was as trite as it was forgettable. I’m not sure why, but it’s one of the very few items that actually stuck in the sieve of his memory. He uttered it at the oddest times, always with full-baritone zeal, and I usually shook my head in a combination of embarrassment and curiosity.
I’d give a lot to hear it one more time. Especially today, two years on.
“I think that I shall never see
A poem as lovely as a tree
For poems are made by fools like me
But only God can make a tree.”
See? It’s lame. Totally and utterly lame. I miss it…a lot.
Here’s to two fools who caught on just in the nick of time…

joyce kilmer.. he’s the author of that poem. he wrote it when he was 26, just 5 years before he died. there’s some songs i despised hearing growing up… isn’t it funny how the things we think we hate end up being the things we miss?

Huh. . .I wonder why that would be? 😉

I remember Ner saying that poem too — among other sayings and things that I’m sure embarrassed you, but you really miss now…
